Answers to commonly asked questions.

Having a safe and properly maintained pool can be an enormous asset to your home if done right. Below are answers to commonly asked questions we’ve come across over the last 20+ years in the pool inspection and engineering business.

Purchasing a home is a very large investment for most, the largest investment they ever make. You want to make sure you're buying a property that is in good conditions with no potential problems - that's why having a professional pool inspector perform a comprehensive inspection is so important they are experts that can determine the conditions of a pool, deck also structural conditions of the pool electrical systems, etc. Erosion, cracks, wiring problems, pumps and dozens of other items could be faulty or in need or repair - and not knowing this in advance can be incredibly expensive to fix down the road when they eventually get worse.
A swimming pool inspection can usually take from 1 to 3 hours depending on the size and number of water features. There are several tests we perform to determine what areas may be at risk, and what the potential risks are going forward before providing you with a final report and recommendations.
Leaks can be obvious in some cases and subtle in others. Often, they can cause larger problems late and sneak up on your. So getting your pool inspected regularly is key. For example, do you find yourself adding water to the pool on a constant basis? Do you have a large water bill caused by consistent water loss? Are there signs of cloudy water or algae? We use a wide array of safe chemicals and dyes to detect leaks instantly. If there is a leak, we'll assess the severity of the situation and provide you with next steps. We're here to help, and giving you the right information is what we do best.
A structural crack can be very serious. The first signs are water loss and a visual inspection will determine a crack and if it is in fact structural.
The average cost can range from a few hundred dollars to even greater cost depending on the work needed to repair the structure i.e. using staples to repair a crack surface must be prepared for proper placement of staples, etc. We do a large array of testing to determine the exact size and position of the cracks, their severity and the best remedies.
The cost to repair a broken pipe can be any were from low hundreds to a few thousand the price will be determined by the difficulty of the repair access to the pipe that needs to be repaired. As with any other part of the pool, the longer this problem goes undetected, the more likely the cost will increase.
The best way to find a broken pipe is a hydro static test to the pipes directly. This will lead you straight to the damaged pipe. By using ultrasonic equipment, we can pin point the spot were the repair needs to be made.
There are 5 signs your pool needs a new pool surface:
  1. Delamination to pool finish loose and flaking pieces of plaster falling of walls
  2. Cracking throughout the pool surface i.e. spider cracks
  3. Discoloration of pool surface or worn down surface where you can visibly see gunite
  4. Loose pebble or aggregates on the pool floor or filter, pump baskets can lead to clogging of filters and pumps
  5. Swimming pool surface has become very rough or brittle
